Grinding and polishing discs for materialography

Grinding and polishing discs are key consumables in the materialographic practice. Thy are used in grinding and polishing machines to achieve a precise removal of material from the sample surface. Grinding and polishing discs are used for pre-polishing and final polishing. Those grinding and polishing discs are made of particular materials and are characterized by a specific grit. As is the case for all machines and consumables, high quality standards are also required for grinding and polishing discs. Only thus the materialographic preparation can provide precise and reproducible results. Depending on the particular preparation step in which they are used, there are different requirements for grinding und polishing. Grinding and polishing discs also differ in their use of additional polishing agents such as pastes and suspensions. While there is no need to use additional polishing agents together with the grinding discs to remove material, polishing discs are used in combination with liquid polishing agents to obtain the desired result.
