Diamond suspension as polishing agent in materialography

During the final polishing steps of the materialographic preparation process, various substances and materials are used. Diamond paste and diamond suspension are established as reliable polishing agents which can be economically dosed. Diamond paste is well suitable for manual and semi-automatic polishing operations on materialographic samples. Diamond suspension is primarily used as an economical and effective polishing agent for automatic polishing. Diamond suspension is ideally applied using an automatic spray unit. It is soluble in alcohol and water and it is available in various grain sizes. When diamond suspensions are used, it is important to watch out for close tolerance grain sizes and high quality. In this context, it is particularly important to ensure a uniform distribution of the diamond particles in the suspension. A high-grade diamond suspension can maintain a stable and uniform viscosity over a longer period of time – even if it is not used. This means that the solution retains its properties even after several days without the need to shake. If the diamond suspension is not used over a longer period of time, its original condition can be restored by shaking.

SCAN-DIA Diamond Suspension

SCAN-DIA offers a high-grade diamond suspension produced with close tolerance diamond in a 250 ml bottle. With an available grain size range from 0.25 to 15 µ, the diamond suspension is suitable for pre-polishing and final polishing. Excellent hardness and very precise removal rates make the SCAN-DIA Diamond Suspension an efficient and economic polishing agent. It is manufactured using exclusively close tolerance diamond. The suspension (soluble in alcohol and water) comes in a handy 250 ml bottle or in a 1 liter refill bottle. In materialographic practice, it might be necessary to combine the diamond suspension with another polishing agent (Al203, silicon oxide). SCAN-DIA provides its customers with advice on all questions related to polishing and the combination of diamond suspensions with other polishing agents. This also includes comprehensive advice on the best possible interaction of all materials and substances involved in the polishing process. All components are already perfectly matched, so that SCAN-DIA's range of Polishing Agents facilitates a reliable polishing process.
